My school doesn't subscribe to Seesaw For Schools, how can I still use Seesaw?

If your school no longer subscribes to Seesaw for Schools (or never has), there are a few major differences to take note of between the free individual Seesaw platform, and the school-wide functionality of the paid Seesaw for Schools.

While most of the suggestions in our Setting up your Seesaw Class Classmate Compass guide still apply, here's a short FAQ detailing some of the limitations of using the platform without a paid subscription.

The school year just started, and my Seesaw class hasn't been created for me. What's up?
Seesaw's Admin Console is the tool that allows us to create all of a school's Seesaw classes, meaning that the first time that you log in each school year, your class is ready to go.

The Admin Console is only available to Seesaw for Schools subscribers, so if your school has switched to the free version, you'll need to set up your class yourself.

Seesaw offers a quick step-by-step guide for creating your class right here, and for adding students right here.
Okay, I've set up my class. Why aren't my students family members connected to their accounts?

Since free Seesaw teacher accounts aren't connected to a 'School', students are technically using a new account every school year. This means that families will need to be added again if they want to see their child's journal.

Why can't my students / parents see their content from last year?

The paid Seesaw for Schools subscription allows student content to carry over each year. This means that if a student stays at the same school from K-7, parents can see their entire learning journey!

This functionality isn't available for free users. When you archive your previous year's class, connected parents will receive an email with instructions for downloading their child's class journal before the journal is permanently removed.

I'm trying to add another teacher as a co-teacher to my class, why can't I?

The free version of Seesaw only supports two teachers per class. If your class already contains yourself and one other co-teacher, you won't be able to add another.

I can't make an activity that's more than one page. Did something change?

Multi-page activities are only available to paid Seesaw for Schools subscribers.

Where did our school's Activity Library go?

If your school chose not to renew its Seesaw for Schools subscription, you'll no longer see this option. The school Activity Library is only available with a paid Seesaw for Schools subscription.

I can't create any folders for this year's Seesaw class. Why not?

If your school chose not to renew its Seesaw for Schools subscription, you'll no longer have the ability to create folders. Folders are only available with a paid Seesaw for Schools subscription.

I no longer see the option to return my student's work as a draft. Where did it go?

If you're reading this far, you might be able to guess the answer.

If your school chose not to renew its Seesaw for Schools subscription, you'll no longer see the option to return student work. Returning / revising student work is only available with a paid Seesaw for Schools subscription.
