Protecting Student Information & Online Services FAQ
We believe every child should have access to the very best educational experience, and we know Parents, Principals, and Teachers agree. To deliver that experience, we recommend and manage specific education platforms — ensuring the highest level of security possible. We've worked hard to ensure any service we recommend is backed by a proven track record and either meets or exceeds global security practices.
Check out the FAQ below for more information.
What student-specific information is shared?
While not necessarily available everywhere, the following information is an exhaustive list of student details shared with one or more online services.
- First Name
- Last Name
- School Email Address
- Grade
- Class(es)
- Teacher(s)
Why is student data shared and how is it used?
Student data shared with each service is only for the purpose of creating the ideal educational experience. By each student having their own digital profile, teachers are able to virtually identify each student and their individual progress on the task at hand. This empowers several important functions such as handing in work electronically, proactively helping students before they fall behind, monitoring student's digital behaviour, building a portfolio of work, and more!
How is student data NOT used?
Each online service we recommend has individually expressed their belief in an uncompromised education for every student. The following activities are just a few of the common digital threats that DO NOT apply to student data. In other words, student data is exempt from:
- Personalized Ads
- Data Mining/Harvesting
- Monetization
- Data Commerce
Where is student data stored?
Student data is stored within secure Data Centres around the globe. This is necessary to ensure no data is lost in the event of a natural disaster and to ensure the services are constantly available for teachers and students at any time.
Are there alternatives?
In today's world, there are alternatives to everything but not everything is equal. While we could find an alternative to any of our recommended services, the trade-offs would be far too great. We invest a significant amount of time each summer reviewing and evaluating alternatives to every service. We do this to ensure the educational experience in the upcoming year will be it's best yet.
We're always improving the experience at schools, the information above is subject to change based on industry-specific best practices.
